Case Study: Tømmerup Haveby Children's Home

How SKYEN sensors created a better indoor climate and prevented sick leave

The Tømmerup Haveby children's home in Kastrup has been using five SKYEN sensors to improve the indoor climate and reduce sick leave since May 2024. Institution manager Charlotte Colfach talks about their positive experiences with the solution.

The Challenge: Disease that "went around in circles"

The Tømmerup Haveby orphanage did not have a critically high level of sick leave, but the institution's director Charlotte Colfach experienced a recurring problem:

"We didn't have a lot of sick leave, but there was illness, which was something like that... Colds and things that just went around in circles. And then I got a little... That's enough!"

Charlotte knew that airing out could help, but the problem was implementing it in everyday life:

"We've tried going around saying, 'Remember to air out.' But we won't do it if there's nothing constantly reminding us of it."

Especially in winter, ventilation became a challenge: "Yes, especially in winter. I also freeze and close the windows."

The solution: Five SKYEN sensors as a visual guide

Charlotte decided to invest in five SKYEN sensors after seeing the product:

"I saw your clouds and bought them pretty quickly. They weren't crazy expensive. So I thought I could do something for a small amount."

The SKYEN sensors act as a visual guide, lighting up red when CO2 levels are too high and blue when air quality is good. This gave employees a clear signal when to ventilate.

The implementation: Natural integration into everyday life

The employees welcomed the new technology:

"They thought it was funny and said: Now we have to see if it works."

New routines were quickly developed, especially in winter when airing out with children present can be challenging:

"We built a routine where we aired out so we could get the SKY blue while the kids were on the playground."

Charlotte explains how it became a natural part of everyday life:

"It's just there. And when I see it's red, we open the windows, and when it's blue, we close them again."

The result: Prevention rather than firefighting

After implementing the SKYEN sensors, the orphanage has experienced positive changes:

"Of course, it's also spring now, but we rarely get above the magic limit for sick leave in the institution, where I have to take all sorts of measures. And it suits me really well that we can keep the disease down."

Charlotte emphasizes her preventive approach:

"We were over the limit a few years ago, and we haven't been for a long time. I believe in prevention and that we should do something before. I don't want to be behind."

Practical benefits for management

For Charlotte as an institutional manager, the SKYEN sensors were a cost-effective solution that required minimal maintenance and training:

"It's not something that, you know, they spend time on. It's just there, then we open, then we close. It's not something that takes up space like that."

Conclusion: An investment that pays off

The Tømmerup Haveby children's home has become part of ÅBN ApS's solution for better indoor climate, and Charlotte recommends it to other institutions:

"We're happy with it. And it wasn't that expensive. I think that's a good thing, you can go for it."

Key benefits of the CLOUD:

  • Visual and intuitive guidance for employees
  • Helps establish better ventilation routines
  • Cost-effective prevention of sick leave
  • Easy implementation without extensive training
  • Natural integration into everyday life
